The Protestant Truth Society has written to His Majesty King Charles III in relation to the King’s recent message for Ramadan and Eid.

Sir,
I am writing on behalf of the Council of the Protestant Truth Society to express our deep concern and regret that Your Majesty gave a message for Ramadan and Eid this year, but gave no message for the Christian festival of Easter. Easter commemorates the Lord Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. These two great events are central to the Christian gospel.
At Your Majesty’s coronation you swore to uphold the Protestant Reformed faith established by law. You were given a copy of the Bible with these words, ‘receive this Book, the most valuable thing that this world affords. Here is Wisdom, this is the royal Law, these are the lively (living) Oracles of God.’ These words are true. The Bible is the living word of the living God. It tells us of the origin of this world and of its end. It is, supremely, a revelation of the gospel of God’s only begotten son, Jesus Christ, in whose name alone fallen men and women can find forgiveness and everlasting life. ‘For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved’ Acts 4:12.
The feast of Ramadan is a festival which celebrates, among other things, the Koran. This book explicitly refutes two of the great central truths of the Christian faith, the incarnation and the Trinity. The Koran denies that God has a son. It also denies that God is three in one. It is striking that on the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, which is built on the site of Herod’s temple, the exterior of the building has an inscription with the final words of surah 17 of the Koran, ‘Allah, who begets no son, and has no partner in dominion.’ This is a deliberate and explicit denial of the Christian faith. It is not consistent with Your Majesty’s promise to uphold the Protestant Reformed Christian faith to send a message which commends the celebration of a book which denies that faith. God has, over the centuries, blessed and guarded this nation. The Christian faith revealed in Scripture has been the country’s bedrock. If we, wilfully and knowingly, abandon it, we will fall under the judgment of God.
A solemn promise made before God is a matter of the utmost seriousness. None of us know when our lives may end. The Bible teaches us plainly that ‘it is appointed to man once to die, but after this the judgment’ Hebrews 9:27. All of us will, ultimately, have to answer to Him who is King of kings, and Lord of lords.
We urge Your Majesty not to give any further messages in respect of Muslim festivals. And we pray that you would turn in repentance and faith to Him in whom alone, after our own brief life, eternal life can be found. God has an only begotten Son and He, and only He, has ‘the words of eternal life’ John 6:68.
