The Protestant Truth Society has written to His Majesty King Charles III in relation to the wording in the latest Sovereign Grant report.

I am writing on behalf of the Council of the Protestant Truth Society to express our dismay at the new wording in the latest Sovereign Grant report. Your Majesty’s oath at your coronation was not to ‘protect the space for faith in a multi faith nation’ but to uphold the Protestant Reformed faith. There are now people of many faiths in this country. But the nation is not, constitutionally and historically, a multi faith nation. It is a Christian nation based upon the Bible, God’s inspired word.
Your Majesty is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England and a member of the Church of Scotland. You have sworn to uphold the confessional bases of these churches. Article XVII of the Church of England states ‘They also are to be held accursed that presume to say, That every man shall be saved by the Law or Sect which he professeth’. There is only one true faith and it is the Christian faith expressed in Scripture. The Lord Jesus Christ said ‘I am the way the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me’ John 14:6. The definite article is used to make an unmistakable point. Jesus is the only way to God and all other ways are false. ‘There is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved’ Acts 4:12.
We would urge Your Majesty to return to the previous wording. This expresses the true constitutional position – that you are, under God, the supreme governor of the Church of England and the Defender of the Faith. That Christian faith has been the bedrock of our nation. If we abandon it we will fall under the judgment of God. The only hope for our benighted country is to return to the truth and authority of God’s law and to frame our national life in obedience to it. The nation will only find peace when it turns in repentance and faith to the Prince of peace.
